We got some activity in our mailing list, and I hope that will give motivation to make an effort to find some time get back to coding.
By the way, the new 9Hells server is up. Unfortunatly this new lab still has some downtime, specially on weekends, so it is possible for 9hells.org to be offline now and then.

The development is stalled for quite a time now (two months), for numerous reasons. But it's not dead, I'll return to it anytime, probably next year. I'm sorry too.
And more bad news: the lab where 9hells.org was hosted was inundated (really!), and after that (but really not related to the inundation in any way) we were thrown out from there. We already bought a new HD, and installed a new server on an old P133 machine on another lab, and we plan to buy a whole new machine for us.

Ok, it's absolutely incomplete (see the first section of the TODO.txt file for details), but I'm posting a preview of the much awaited next version of Palito (check the download section) so you can take a look on how it's going..
The server is mostly functional, the most important things missing are the optimization of the network (priorities on the unit update packages, based on user viewport and changes on each unit data) and proper visibility (only send to player update on things he (his units) actualy can see). Also, the server has problems receiving many orders at once.
On the client side, there are many things to be done. The build menu doesn't work, and many game elements are not visually represented yet.

It has been long since the last releases, and the last ones were a bit buggy, the new terrain feature causing problems in win32, etc.. Well, I would like to tell you I'm re-writing most stuff on a new client-server model, and it's begining to take shape. I'll post it as soon as it gets usable (maybe a month from now, or so). [updated 07/26: it's alive!]

palito was shown in two presentations, today at Estácio University, and last Monday at La Salle University, both in Niterói, Rio de Janeiro, where I (barrett) live. The theme was "Free Software and Palito", but in the former there was also an emphasis on linear algebra aspects of the game implementation.
